Before him, at the edge of the treeline, though encircled by the trees in a protective ring, was his home. With a hesitant smile, broken through his quivering lip, he slowly approached it, speeding up as he went, ripping his shirt over his head and, once close enough, he dove into the shining, shimmering, placid lake that was at the heart of the forest. The tension and anticipation of the waters snapped with a joyful splash, gladly embracing the man with cool, loving moisture, his entire body drenched and submerged in the depths of the water, where he stayed for sometime before slowly coming to the surface. He did not pant, he did not gasp for air, but sighed, smiling lightly now as he began to float on his back. His hair slicked back, heavy with water, and his body glistened in the sun, droplets of water clinging to his skin and holding onto the golden strands of hair on his body. And the man, once surrounded and filled with anger and the urge of viciousness, was now slowly draining and being refilled with a calm. Damn him... Thought the man, a smile on his face despite his anger. Cocky little sonova.... what right does he have... Wales, the shimmering man in the lake, sighed heavily, his smile still thick on his face. He had just gotten the news not too long ago; his brother was gone. England was gone, disconnected, disappeared. Granted Wales didn't even know where he was, he knew that at the least he had this forest. But with England gone, life would be different; he would need new purpose, new inspiration, and a new goal.
Wales swam some, allowing the activity to spur his mind. Perhaps he could find England... no, he didn't care about the idiot that much, he wouldn't want him to get the wrong impression... Maybe he could try to find Scotland, or Ireland who he missed dearly; they'd know what to do... But where to look? it was almost hopeless... he'd be better off in the forest where he was, where he never saw any creatures but always heard them, and where things almost always seemed far too lush without question. In fact, as of late, he hadn't even seen humans... He was done swimming, he was thinking too much. Wales swam to the edge of the lake, stepping in the sediment-ed soils of the water's bottom and walking onto land, his pants dripping with water and being heavily weighed down and making it difficult to walk easily. All the same, he trudged to where he discarded his shirt. He didn't pull it on, but slung it around his neck and walked through the forest again, being careful now to step exactly where he had before as to prevent further damaging the woods. "Surry... Di'n' mean t' 'ur' ye, see~" He mumbled under his breath. He then reflected on the fact that he was talking to vegetation and sighed. "Ai nee' cump'ny..." The social man said.
Maybe it was nature sympathizing with Wales, or maybe it was just sure dumb luck, but wouldn't you know that Wales, for the first time, saw a living creature. He paused at the sight of it, amazed and dumbfounded. Surely he was seeing things, surely it wasn't what he though. Ahead of him, on the stump of a fallen tree, was a being, small and curled up within itself in a slumber, orange in color and breathing slowly. Its skin looked smooth, the light filtering just perfectly through the trees to shine on it, and Wales could tell the creature had claws... but that was not what fascinated him the most. What he saw, what captivated him, was the tail of the creature, ablaze at the end, most curiosly. Wales stopped, looking at the creature, lips puckered slightly in contemplation. He looked around him, wondering instinctively if anyone would catch him if he approached, and with the coast clear, he went in. The creature stayed asleep, not noticing the approaching crunch of the combat boots in the rocky soil, and Wales thanked God for that. He held onto his shirt, around his neck, inspecting the creature. "Loo' a'che... ye li'e a li'l dragon, see! 'ow cu'e~"
At Wales' words, the creature opened an eye, malicious looking at first, but obviously tired the next. "Cha~ar..." said the creature lazily as it yawned an adorable breath. Wales bit his lip, smiling largely. He looked at the creature, which blinked both of its blue eyes, it's mouth drawn into a small hole as it stared back to Wales. "Char..." it said again, tilting its head to the side and flaring its nostrils to sniff the man. It was in a slight tremor, somewhat unsettled by the presence of this... person. But the burly man didn't notice the discomfort of the creature and just smiled, putting out his hand slowly.
"Hiya~ Whu's yer name li'l one?" Wales asked rhetorically. The creature looked at Wales' hand, slowly moving its head toward the outstretched appendage, sniffing it at all angles. Then, slowly, it opened its mouth and closed it around Wales' hand, not biting him, suckling the skin, probably trying to get the sediments from the water off Wales figured. "Bwehehee~~ Too cu'e!" Wales said. The creature released the hand and looked up to Wales expectantly, blinking its large eyes a few times. "Whu's th's then? Whu're ye loo'in' a' me li'e tha' fer?"
"Charmander Char!"
"Aye, ye don' sey?"
"Char!"
"Nu, yer jo'in!"
"..."
Suddenly both parties began to laugh; Wales laughing because he hadn't understood anything that the creature, and the creature laughing because it knew Wales had no idea what it had said but was playing along anyways. Wales pat the creature on the head, smiling and laughing heartedly.
"Ye keep sayin' 'Charmander', see? ... s'tha' whu' yer culled?" Wales questioned, the creature nodding in reply with a affirmative "char". Wales chuckled and smiled. "Aye, tha' so? Ye don' loo' li'e e 'Charmander' t' me... Ai thin' yer more... Rhodri. aye. Rhodri." The Charmander yelped back a few of its sounds in pleasure, apparently agreeing with Wales on the decision. With another laugh, Wales pat the Charmander again and stood. "Ai 'ope ai see ye agen... yer a cu'e li'l felluh, boyo." And with that, the man turned to leave. But the Charmander stopped him, grabbing his pants and tugging lightly. "Whu's th's then? ... ye... ye wunna come wid me, Rhodri?" Wales questioned and the Charmander replied affirmatively, hugging itself to Wales' leg and chewing on his pant leg some. "Bwehehee~ Arri! Safe, ye know whaddaimean, see? Le' th' a'venture a' Gareth an' Rhodri begin! ... aah, furs' though... le's try an' fin' a pub, see?"[/ul][/size]
