Character information
Country: New Zealand
Gender: Male
Starter pokémon: Male Totodile called Tom. (He actually answers to Bugger, but New Zealand doesn't know he accidentally named his Pokemon that. XD)
Appearance: New Zealand has short blond hair, green eyes, and is of average height and build. He carries a backpack with a sleeping bag tied to it, and is wearing blue jeans, a green t-shirt and a black zip-up jacket.
Personality: New Zealand is a friendly guy who loves animals and playing sport, swears every so often, and cares about the environment. He's very competitive and hates to lose (especially to his bro Australia), but the beers afterwards usually make up for the blow to his pride.
He wonders what happened to his country after the meteor hit, and the whereabouts of his pet sheep. He'd had the sheep since the day his country became part of the former British Empire, and he'd grown attached to the cute little bugger.

"Wow, what are these animals?" New Zealand said to the Professor. He had never seen animals like these before, and he'd seen a lot of animals in his time. One of them looked like a small green dinosaur with a giant leaf on its head. Another one had spiky flames coming out of its back, and the third looked like a blue crocodile.
"These are Pokemon." The Professor said. "You train them, and use them to battle and capture wild pokemon. You can battle against other trainers as well."
"Battle?" New Zealand said. "These pokemon are warriors?"
New Zealand had a lot of respect for warriors, having been one himself in the past. These days the only fighting he did was going to war alongside his people, and before England came to his country he had fought to protect his home village from all invaders.
"You could say that." The Professor said. "You and your pokemon are a team. You look after your pokemon, and your pokemon will look after you. You can choose one of these three Pokemon to take with you."
"Really?" New Zealand said. "I can take one of these three Pokemon with me?"
"Every new trainer is given a Pokemon when they start their journey." The Professor said. "Normally a new trainer is a lot younger than you are, but there's no age limit to be a trainer."
New Zealand stared at the three Pokemon sitting in front of them. The leaf dinosaur looked kind of cute, but the one with the flames looked a little dangerous. Australia would've loved the blue crocodile, and it looked a little less dangerous than the ones he had at his house.
"Are there any major differences between the three of them?" New Zealand said. "Different abilities and so on?"
"Well, the Chikorita is a plant type. She's strong against water types, and weak against fire types. Cyndaquil is a fire type. He's strong against plant types, and weak against water types. Totodile here is a water type."
"Strong against fire, weak against plant types?"
"You're catching on." The Professor said. "The totodile is male as well."
New Zealand stared at the pokemon. They were all so cute, but the Professor said he could only choose one.
"You mentioned that I need to train my pokemon." New Zealand said. "Does that mean they can practice their moves on their trainer as well as other pokemon?"
"I suppose so," the Professor said. "Have you made a decision?"
"Not yet." New Zealand said. If the Pokemon can practice on him, it might be wise not to catch a fireball in the face. That means the Cyndaquil is out. So that left the Chikorita and the Totodile. Water and plants were both good, but what would be good in battle?
"I think- glubbb.." New Zealand was cut off by a stream of water hitting him in the face. The stream of water stopped, and New Zealand wiped his face on his shirt. He looked up and saw the Totodile. He could've sworn the little bugger was grinning.
"That mischevious little bugger!" New Zealand said. "I'll take him."

(Please let me know if I got the strengths and weaknesses of those three wrong, it's been years since I've watched an episode of Pokemon. )
