He was safe here, between the leafs, high above the ground, safe from any predators, like that ekans he had encountered before. Tiny claws duh deep into the thick branch below him, securing him on his place. Ruffled feathers were a little puffed up, wings pressed tightly against his round little body. The tiny bird, that had somehow gotten high up in the tree, was shivering and shaking from fear, a nervous wreck really. Big black eyes stared at the leafs in front of him, waiting for them to move, waiting for something to fly in and grab him, and kill him...and oh dear Lord, what was he doing being so scared. He'd peck the bastard their eyes out if he tried! But that didn't take away Romano's fear.
Lucciola himself was holding onto their backpack, standing next to some big root of the tree. He looked up at the other with a worried expression stuck on his face. It wasn't like Lucciola to feel so lost and confused, but really, what could he do right now? Should he climb up and get Romano?
They had both been extremely confused, and the orange lizard knew what a spazz his human companion could be, but this was just silly.
The night before had been like any other, the two of them had strayed away from the path in the evening, and got themselves lost in the forest for the night. Both had grown used to this, and neither one minded. While Romano had never been that much of a traveling country, in terms of visiting his own place, or family and friends, he was able to take care of himself due to the experience he gained from that time, and having Lucciola at his side helped with feeling safe. As for Lucciola, the hyper little creature never seemed to mind where they ended up at, as long as it was dry.
The Italian had crawled into a sleeping bag, using his bag as a pillow, Lucciola securely curled up at his side. And this is how they fell asleep. Nothing strange or unusual there. Same old thing, night after night with nothing ever changing, until that night. Morning had come around a little to fast for the brunette's taste. It wasn't the sunlight, he knew for a fact because he found himself in a dark place, even with your eyes closed you will know those things. But he heard some pokemon outside moving about, making soft noises as they too woke up. Never before had this been so unsettling. Romano was slowly waking up, bit by bit, growing more aware of his full surrounding. The direct surroundings were somehow forgotten, as his mind urged him to focus on the bigger picture. Once he had taken everything around him into account, could he begin to take notice of everything closer to him. Something felt off. There was something there with him, something big, possibly heavy and dangerous as well. Romano's body tensed a little at the thought. Romano met a whole new world when he finally managed to open his eyes. The red fabric of his sleeping bag was all around, gently draped around him.
How had he ended up all the way in here? It didn't occur to him that he had changed yet, his mind wasn't fully functioning, yet. Best thing to do was to get up, which was surprisingly easy to do. One moment Romano was still down, relaxed and ready to doze off, and as soon as he tried to get up to shake the feeling off, he found himself on his feet already.
Romano knew he was standing on his own two legs, he knew he was up, then why didn't it make a change? Maybe this was all a dream. Paranoia wasn't a nice feeling. It crept into Romano's mind, unsettling him. In turn of that it began to feel like the sleeping bag was about to swallow him whole, suffocating him. He had to escape this!
Romano began to move forward, struggling, flailing and panicking. Lucciola, who was still sleeping peacefully next to the bag noticed the movement. The lizard turned away at first, stretching his body to the fullest, needing a moment to wake. That wasn't his first intent however. The pokemon knew fully well that it was rather early, to early for his companion to be up. It brought a little worry to him, wondering what had gotten into the other to wake at this time.
Lucciola began to hope for Romano to go back to sleep, but this wasn't the case, far from it.
Romano was growing desperate to get out. Grabbing at the fabric resulted into nothing. He felt it, sure he did. Yet it was a impossible task to actually hold the damn thing. It was like he had a lack of hands. This moment of realization hit Romano like a brick, getting the Italian to calm a little. What the hell was going on? It seemed more and more likely he wasn't quite himself any longer. Everything just stopped at that moment. Romano had blocked out all sound as he stood there, in the middle of the sleeping bag, staring at the red fabric that surrounded him completely. He brought up what he thought was his arms, turning his gaze towards them. What he saw made him twitch. Big (to him big) round wings, covered with black, red and yellow feathers. They shook a little, from the nerves. Romano proceeded to move them around, realizing this was him.
A high pitched scream echoed trough the surrounding forest.
The tiny Natu hopped around the bag in distress, alerting the lizard further. The Orange creature on his turn shot up at the scream, spinning around, only to see a lump move around in the middle of the bag at lighting speed. Lucciola was intrigued and taken over by curiosity, so much that he didn't stop to wonder where Romano had gone off to. His tail swayed from left to right, picking up speed as the lizard approached the top of the sleeping bag. Green eyes filled with pure curiosity stared intensely at the spazzing lump. The pokemon got hold of the fabric, pulling it up and throwing it to the side.
Romano stopped moving for a bit, and watched the fabric hit the grass, not to far away from him. He stared at it with wide-eyes, unable to look away for God knows what reason. But nothing happened, and nothing would happen which he knew. Then why couldn't he look away?
Lucciola himself was observing the frightened natu, unable to see how it had gotten in the bag. “Hello!” he spoke up, in a happy and loud voice without thinking, sending the poor creature jumping in surprise. Their eyes met, and Romano immediately felt the need to keep staring, observing this frighting giant charmander. A voice in the back of his mind told him he had nothing to fear, that he knew this pokemon, but the fear was stronger. “I'm Lucciola!” the charmander continued, loudly, “I've been traveling with my human friend for some time now, and you're probably the first pokemon I met!”
Romano backed up, scared by this other loud creature. This had to be a nightmare, this was the only explanation. Lucciola didn't notice, and continued, “You're probably the first other pokemon I met that's not with a human that dares to come close! I'm really happy to meet you! Maybe you can travle with us, and we can be friends, and have fun with the three of us and... wait a minute, where's my friend gone?” the charmander got on his feet, staring into the distance. “Romano!” Lucciola roared, a bit sad as he realized he might have been abandoned.
Romano himself came crashing back into reality at that moment, losing his fear for a moment. “Don't shout dammit, I'm right here!”
The both of them then stared at each other for a moment, both figuring out what has happened. “Y-you got to be kidding me...” Romano backed away further, bumping into a tree. The lizard only tilted his head, smiling. Something which unsettled the natu greatly.
Lucciola attempted to step forward, and approach his friend, who barely understood he was a pokemon. It scared him, and he couldn't help it. Lucciola's movement didn't help, and send the poor thing into the tree, putting them in the situation they were in now.
“Pleas, come back down!”
Lucciola was at a complete loss.
